Photo workshop #3 - Learning "Macro" at Jardin Meise

For our second photography workshop we thought about learning Macro at the Jardin Meise, where you can take pictures of many flowers and plants.

Elio was again our teacher and we learned how macro photography works. The result is pretty cool, right? :)

We had a great experience and we enjoyed a lovely park and greenhouse!!

Meet Aurélie Taquet and check out her theme "Art in the streets"

Hello, my name is Aurélie and as my name betrays, I am French!

I love everything that is artistic, from writing and theatre to, of course, photography… I joined the "Brussels by us" project to discover Brussels differently and to share pictures with other people who enjoy looking at the world in a more artistic way.

My photo-theme is "Art in the streets". I like to see that cities are alive, and that although a big part of them looks very permanent with the architecture (although with the number of construction sites in Brussels sometimes I wonder!), there are also those little spontaneous, artistic, human touches that put a little bit of colors on gray walls.

There are the paintings on the walls of course, and Brussels is full of those – official ones and less official ones – but there are also people, people dancing, people walking on ropes, people juggling, people decorating… Did you know you could find an old piano when walking through Molenbeek?

Looking forward to seeing everyone's pictures there!

Photo workshop #2 - Learning the basics of photography. The manual mode.

For this time's reunion we thought of learning from our own members of the club, so we met up in a café and Margarita Ruiz gave us a little class on the basics of manual photography with digital cameras.

We had brunch in a café of Saint Gilles, listen to some info and went out to take pictures.

It was a very nice day and we had a great photo-day!

Our photo club visits "Le Centre d'Art contemporain pour la photographie" - Brussels

This time, our Photo Club prepared a visit to "L'Espace photographique Contretype, Centre d'Art contemporain pour la photographie à Bruxelles".

Centre d'Art contemporain pour la photographie à Bruxelles

We met in the morning at Saint Gilles, one of the suburbs of Brussels, and we entered the Hôtel Hannon.

In the words of Visitbrussels.be: "In 1902 the engineer Edouard Hannon (1853 - 1931) called upon his friend, the architect Jules Brunfaut (1852 - 1942) to build this mansion, a masterpiece in the Art Nouveau style. At the present time the building is occupied by the Contretype Photographic organisation which is devoted to the promotion of creative photography by organising, in particular, exhibitions".

For all this reasons we thought it could be a good idea to go and visit, and it was! There, we could take a look at the work of other photographers...

...and also see the beautiful Art Nouveau house from the inside. Here there are some details:

I hope you liked this visual visit as much as we liked going there. Don't hesitate to comment and, if you have the time, go and see the cool Hôtel Hannon. Ciao!

Meet Margarita Ruiz and check out her theme "People and their pets"

"Hi, everyone!

My name is Margarita Ruiz and I am Spanish.

I am the coordinator of this blog, so I am the one who will be answering your questions if you have some, but if you want to contact the other artists you just have to say so.

I joined the "Brussels by us" project because I thought it would be very interesting to work with other artists from all around Europe and make a blog that could hold all our pictures of Brussels, taken form our own perspective, together as an only project that could show the different and interesting points of view of the city.

We all chose a topic and the main one I chose is "People and their pets", but I am also interested in details I see on doors and the diverse forms in which the Manneken pis is represented all over Brussels.
